Pay Day Wish List...

Yay it's my favourite day of the month, pay day! Like most girls on this day I have a long list of things that I not only want but neeeeed in my life, so as I love reading other peoples wish list post so much I thought I'd do one of my own.

Clockwise left to right...
New Look Jumpo Dark Grey Marled Fold Collar coat - £28.00
I love this coat, it looks so warm and toasty as well being stylish. I think this is a great any occasion coat, I can wear this for work as it's smart and I can also wear it casual with a pair of jeans. Plus it's a bargain!

Benefit Away We Glow - £29.50
I love Benefit make up sets and I spied this in Boots the other day and thought it was a great way to update my make up collection without spending a fortune. The kit includes; Sun Beam, High Beam, Ultra Shines in Life on the A List, BADgal Lash, CORALista and shimmering 5 colour eye shadow pallet.

Benefit How to Look the Best at Everything (medium) - £24.50
Again this is another great set from Benefit, this time for foundations and bases. This includes; POREfessional, Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow, Boi-ing 02 & 03 and Hello Flawless powder.

Forever 21 party dress - £19.95
This dress is so much nicer in real life that in this picture, I love dresses and tops with back detail and simple fronts. I have a girls night out planned for November so this would be perfect with a pair of black tights (it is November after all!), black shoes and sparkly clutch.

Ciate Advent Calendar - £38
This is the ultimate in advent calendars for beauty lovers, I have a serious obsession with nail polish and Ciate polishes are always beautiful. The advent calendar contains 24 miniature bottles of polish including the popular caviar manicure. If I don't get this I will be very sad, but convincing my husband that spending £38 on nail polish is good idea might be a bit of a stretch.

Ugg boots - £165
Every year I say I am going to splash out and buy myself some Uggs but then end up buying a cheaper version (usually from River Island) which don't even last the winter. This year I have been quite fortunate in that I got a new job and can afford to get these this year so I definitely will! I really like the calf length version as I has quite short legs, I know some people think they are ugly but being a busy Mum I spend a lot of time running around and need comfy shoes.

So there you have it, my wish list, I will update you on any purchases I make over the month and I am working on compiling my Christmas wish list already :)

Light bulb moment

Ok, I think I have finally found my blogging mojo and a direction I want to take things in, so I thought who best to put the idea to than the people who will actually be reading.
Whilst going back through all my posts from the past month I found that most of them featured skin care products, this has only come about as I have finally decided it was time I got off my lazy ass and do something about my skin. But what if I was to theme my posts every month? So October seems to be mainly skin care themed, November could be make up themed?
Obviously I know that reading about similar products every week can get a little boring so I will throw in posts on other subjects, like the personal post I have been doing and if I find a particular product I am excited about sharing. But there will be a post every week on my chosen subject. Also like all girls I have a very long list of things I need, not just want (obviously). I love reading other wish list posts so I have decided that every month I will do a pay day wish list and keep you updated on the things I am lucky enough to get off the previous months list, if any.
I'm going try this approach out for a few weeks and see how it goes, your comments would be most appreciated as I'd love to know what you think of my 'light bulb' moment.

Pure Beauty Awards 2012

I am very lucky that as part of my job I get to go to lovely events such as the Pure Beauty Awards, this year our brand was not only nominated in a category but also a sponsor of the awards. This meant that I had to put my Simon Cowell judging hat on to help pick the winner of the Beauty Consultant of the Year award.

For those of you who don't know, Pure Beauty is a trade magazine for the beauty industry, so it is not one you would find on your supermarket shelves. It show cases all of the latest and greatest products and services within the industry. If it sounds like something you would be interested in you can subscribe here.

The awards evening and the judging day both took place in the very swanky Savoy Hotel in London, I had never been to the Savoy before and didn't really know what to expect or what to wear. It was everything you would hope it would be and more, I was met by a top hatted doorman who smiled politely and made me feel very welcome. Then I entered the sparkling lobby that gleamed from corner to corner, that then dropped down into a tea room that looked like it had been plucked straight from a Jane Austin novel. I got a little bit lost trying to find the bar I was supposed to be in and a lovely gentleman worker showed me exactly where I needed to be. The judging took place in the Beaufort Bar, a very luxurious and ornate cocktail bar, where cocktails start at £14! Considering I am really not the sort of person who frequents somewhere like the Savoy on a regular basis I never once felt out of place, I was expecting a lot of stuck up people looking down their noses if I'm honest but there was none of that.

I was very excited about taking part in the judging and being in the Savoy Hotel was a very special experience, one I know all of the judges and contestants fully appreciated. To kick off the judging all the contestants got to stand behind the very grand cocktail bar and make their own cocktails, guided by the Savoys only female bartender. Her knowledge of the different alcohols and flavours was amazing, who knew so much thought and effort went into preparing a drink. She was obviously very passionate about cocktail making and extremely proud to be working at the Savoy. As each team came up with their own cocktail we, the judges, got to taste their efforts and mark them out of 5. I have to say although I'm not a huge fan of Champagne on its own you can give me a Champagne cocktail any day!

After drinking cocktails, having their nails done by the London College of Beauty Therapy, a lunch of sandwiches and chips (not just any old chips, Savoy chips!) and being grilled by all of us judges, it was time for the contestants to go and get glammed up whilst we deliberated over the winners to be announced later that evening.

The evening was probably one of the grandest events I have been too, other than weddings, and there were a whole host of minor celebrities there to get me all excited. As we entered the Lancaster Ballroom to find our table, it was nice to see we were quite near the front so we wouldn't miss anything. We were on a table with the lovely ladies from Ciate and St. Moriz (who I have to say were a little Ab Fab). It was a very nice surprise to find a lovely big bag of goodies on our seats too, there was all sorts of things in there from fake tan to sea salt spray for your hair.

The night was hosted by TV presenter and former Strictly Come Dancing contestant Dan Lobb along with sports presenter Sarah Stone. The evening saw awards presented by TOWIE faves Lauren Goodger, who for the most part looked like she'd rather be anywhere else, and Amy Childs who seemed a lot sweeter and even picked up a Highly Commended award for her perfume I recently reviewed. Also presenting awards were celebrity hair dressers Charles Worthington, who is tiny in real life, and Lee Stafford.

All in all we had a great night at the 2012 Pure Beauty Awards, the Savoy was lovely (although the evening service a little off) and to top off a fantastic day and evening we even won a Silver award for our category! All I can say is Pure Beauty better watch out next year as we've something pretty amazing coming your way...

Best cleanser EVER!

As you will probably be aware by now if you are a regular reader of my blog, I am on the look out for great skin care products. As my skin care regime was pretty much non existent before I started this quest, the quicker the product/process is to use/complete the happier I am!

Thanks to my very generous sister in-law, who just so happens to live in Dubai, I have managed to acquire one of the most sought after beauty products on the market. I believe this product is not actually available in the UK at the moment and I have even read blogs where people have actually gone to France specifically to purchase this product. The product in question is of course Bioderma.

The hype:
At the cutting edge of innovation, BIODERMA has pioneered micellar solutions. Specially formulated for sensitive, normal to dry skins, the Sensibio H2O micelle solution gently cleanses face and eyes. It removes water-resistant make-up.
The micelles contained in its formula effectively micro-emulsify impurities while maintaining the skin’s balance (soap-free, physiological pH).
I have heard quite a bit about this product so when on a recent visit back to the UK my sister in-law presented me with this I was very excited, and I can honestly say I was not disappointed!

This is quite possibly the best cleanser I have ever used, it feels just like using water and moisturiser but at the same time, if that makes any sense. It is so light and has no nasty smell and feels really gentle, my experience of cleansers is that they can sometimes feel and smell like you are pouring pure alcohol on your face.

Bioderma is also fantastic at removing make up, including mascara, so this meant that there was no need to remove my make up before I cleansed. Perfect for a lazy girl like my who likes to get to bed without faffing over my skin care routine. I find that sometimes with make up removers and wipes you can still be left with panda eyes and it takes some rubbing before all the mascara is off, not with this, I literally had to wipe over my eye once maybe twice and it was all gone. I even resorted to tugging on my eyelashes to check it was all gone as I couldn't quite believe it.

As you can see from the pictures below my skin is quite awful and I do wear a fair bit of make up to sort it out...

Before
After

As you can see the Bioderma worked wonders at removing the make up whilst cleansing at the same time. My skin feels amazing after I've used it, really moisturised and clean with no sticky or stinging feeling. I will definitely be putting in another order for the next time my sister in-law is home, I don't think I would be without this product from now on!

Last night as I was using my new cleanser I decided to give one of the products a go from my She Said Beauty October box, the one I was most looking forward to trying, the B.liv Off with those Heads.

The hype:
Say goodbye to painful squeezing! This light cooling gel promises to remove stubborn blackheads and whiteheads painlessly in just 14 days of application and stop them from appearing ever again. It keeps excessive oil secretion under control and skin irritation will never rule again.
I didn't know quite what to expect from this product but as you can see I have quite bad skin and so I was hoping that I would see some results. The product itself is a gel and so it did feel quite sticky on my skin and when it dried it did sting a little, but it does say to expect that if you have sensitive skin. I had read somethings to say that it made your skin produce more oils but I didn't experience this. What I did notice was that it made the black heads on my nose more prominent, they had faded again this morning but I was quite alarmed when I first saw them.

The product information says that after 14 days application they should stop appearing completely, as I was only given a very small tester I will only find this out if I buy the full sized product. This again is not available in the UK so I would have to order it from the America, but they do offer free shipping and you get a She Said Beauty discount, so I may well have to try this one out and see if it really does work.

So in summary, a trip to France to pick up some Bioderma booze cruise styley well worth the trip. The hassle of ordering black head removal products from the US, probably not.

The sweet smell of Amy Childs

As promised in my recent post 'She Said Beauty Box - October' here is the first of my products reviews, I'm starting with the new fragrance from Amy Childs as this is the one that gives instant results 'ya know I mean hun'.

The hype:
Encased in an adorable deep purple, multi-faceted bottle embellished with a heart shaped charm, Amy Childs perfume is fabulous and feminine, just like her. A fan of all things glamorous and girly, Amy is qualified beauty therapist with her own salon, beauty products and clothing range. She has always loved perfume and smelling lovely. In fact, when she was setting up her salon, Amy chose all the lotions and oils herself as she wanted to ensure that all the fragrances were just perfect.
As you can see from the pictures below it was only a small sample I received not the 'multi-faceted embellished bottle', although that does sound very appealing.

I'm never sure how I am supposed to use these strange little perfume samples as I am always afraid of just pouring it all over me, I am usually a spray and walk kinda girl to avoid over kill. So this morning I tentatively tipped the a small amount on my neck and a little on my wrists.

It is not usually a smell I would choose as it is very sweet, it is exactly how you would imagine Amy Childs to smell. As Amy apparently chose all the ingredients herself I guess that is exactly what you would expect to happen. I would not say this has a very distinct smell that you would instantly recognise like your Gucci and Chanel classics, but as far as celebrity scents go I would say it's quite nice. It reminded me a lot of Vera Wang Princess, which I have and wear very rarely because of the sweetness. I would not wear this as an everyday perfume as it is quite strong and I could smell it on myself for quite a long time which was a bit distracting. If I was to wear this perfume I would probably save it for a night out, when you want something that lingers that little bit longer and not so subtle.

At an average price of £14.99 I would say it was quite good value for money, perfect for Christmas if you have a young teenager or 'Amynator' to buy for. All in all I would give this fragrance a 3/5, nice but a little too sweet for me.

A Dotty P's pick me up...

This week I have been very quiet on the blogging front as I have been feeling super sorry for myself, like most of the population I have caught the dreadded lurgy and have been coughing and spluttering my way through this week. However when my friend mentioned the Trafford Centre I suddenly felt a lot better :)

It's my OH's 30th this weekend so I had to get him a present anyway (well that's what I told myself). I've been racking my brains for weeks trying to think of what to get him and I had settled on a camera, however when perusing Office I came accross a bargain pair of Vans. The exact same pair he was looking at in the summer but was too tight to buy but for half the price, bonus!

Obviously whilst I was there I had to have a little look for myself too, and to be honest nothing really jumped out at me. I was getting very disheartened as I was hoping to find something gorge to wear for a work thing at Cosmopolitan magazine later this week. Then whilst not really paying attention I stumbled upon this amazeballs scarf in Dorothy Perkins. I love a scarf, they can instantly make a very casual jean and vest combo look very smart and stylish.

This scarf manage to catch my eye because of the bows initially as I love anything with bows on at the moment. It's a really cute peachy pink colour with black bow detail on one side and black and cream check on the other, with a really lovely pearl trim right through the middle.

I absolutely adore this scarf and will get lots of wear out it, the fairly standard colours mean it will go with the majority of my wardrobe so can be used to dress up a casual outfit or I can simply use it to keep me warm. Which is exactly what I need right now! This was not the cheapest scarf I have bought but it certain wasn't expensive, I paid £14 in Dorothy Perkins and for me I think that is very reasonable. That's what I love about Dotty P's you can also ways find yourself a little gem of a purchase, whether is be a cute jumper or amazing accessories.
